Mountain Mysteries
Stories from the Smokies
Every year, more than 21 million people pass through Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Most come for the views. Some come for the trails. And a few of them—the ones who spend real time out there in the hollows and along the ridgelines—come back with something they don’t quite know how to explain.
Gatlinburg sits at the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains—the gateway where people step off pavement and into the Appalachian Trail. It’s a crossroads. Hikers start here. They pass through here. And when they come back, the stories come with them.
The Appalachian Mountains are some of the oldest in the United States, stretching over 2,000 miles from Georgia to Maine. And across that entire spine, the same kinds of accounts keep showing up—whispered, passed down, or told only when the timing feels right.
That’s where this comes from.
The Gatlinburg Podcast exists to collect those stories.
Not the polished versions. Not the ones cleaned up for the record. The real ones—from mountain families who’ve watched the same land for generations, from hikers who came off the trail different than they went in, and from people who don’t scare easy but still won’t go back to certain places after dark.
We’re not here to prove anything. We’re here because the same patterns keep coming up.
And in these mountains, patterns matter.
